Automation can help print and packaging companies remove bottlenecks, improve consistency, and unlock new capacity. But successful deployment depends on more than software. It requires a clear understanding of the workflow, the people using it, and the operational problems the business is trying to solve.
That practical focus will be central to the upcoming OPIA PrintPulse Live webinar, What Real Automation Deployment Looks Like in Print, taking place Tuesday, May 26, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. ET.
The session will feature Michael J. Dequilla, Business Analyst at Significans Automation, who brings more than 20 years of progressive print, graphic design, prepress, automation, and production leadership experience to the conversation.
A Production-Focused Automation Specialist
Michael’s background is deeply rooted in real print operations. At Significans Automation, he works with print and packaging businesses to assess operations, design vendor-neutral automation solutions, and align systems, people, and processes for measurable growth. His role focuses on transforming workflow bottlenecks into competitive advantages.
Before joining Significans Automation, Michael spent nearly a decade with Lowe-Martin, where he served in leadership roles covering prepress, automation, digital imaging, technical sales support, file integrations, press solutions, and colour management. His work included integrating automation solutions using Esko Automation Engine and Enfocus PitStop, improving turnaround time, accuracy, quality control, and operator utilization.
Michael is also a G7 Color Expert and holds certifications in Lean Management, Quality Management, Process Mapping, and Change Management. He also has a Master’s Degree in Big Data and Business Intelligence.
Why Michael’s Experience Matters
Many print companies know where the pain points are: slow handoffs, rework, file issues, missed communication, unclear procedures, and disconnected systems. The harder task is turning those pain points into a practical automation roadmap.
Michael’s experience makes him especially relevant to this discussion because he has worked directly inside production environments where efficiency, colour accuracy, training, quality control, and deadlines all intersect. He has led workflow improvement initiatives, created onboarding programs, supported client training, improved file submission standards, and used data to identify process gaps and improvement opportunities.
That combination of technical skill and operational leadership gives Michael a grounded view of what automation must accomplish to be useful in day-to-day production.
What Attendees Can Expect
During this PrintPulse Live webinar, Michael will help attendees understand how automation can be assessed, planned, deployed, and supported in real print environments. His perspective will be valuable for owners, production leaders, prepress teams, operations managers, and anyone involved in workflow improvement.
The session will explore what automation looks like beyond the sales pitch, including the barriers that can slow implementation and the practical steps that help teams adopt new systems successfully.
